    Food additive and non-food substance testing

    Food additives are indispensable to food industry, but many enterprises will add too much or misuse food additives, and even add non-edible substances, which has seriously affected food security. Pony Testing can testing food additives and non-edible substances based on China and other international standards. We also continue to study the emerging detection methods for non-edible substances, such as the detection of melamine, Sudan and others.

    Food additives are a class of compounds or natural substances that are added to foods to improve the quality of food such as color, aroma and taste, as well as for the purpose of antiseptic and processing. At present, there are more than 20 classes and 1000 kinds of food additives in China, and it can be said that the food industry cannot do without food additives. However, many companies over-add or abuse food additives and even add non-edible substances, which seriously affect food safety.

    The Ministry of Health will investigate and deal with the illegal addition of non-edible substances and food additives that are easily abused in food. The “List of food additives that may be illegally added in food and misusable food additives” was prepared in batches. A wide range of non-edible substances such as melamine, β-lactamase and potassium bromate are subjected to extensive sampling and testing.

    As a food testing organization, Pony Testing Group can detect food additives and illegal non-edible substances relying on strong technology and equipment to ensure food safety. PONY Penny Testing Group was selected as a “List of Food Testing Organizations for Detectable Melamine” by the General Administration of Quality Supervision. There were two laboratories, including Beijing Headquarters Laboratory and Shanghai Laboratory had got the qualifications. At present, PONY Testing Group had assisted relevant government departments and related enterprises in the detection of melamine.
